Learn to Skate

Ice skating is a great way to have fun while staying physically fit. The Learn to Skate program offers a range of classes that meets everyone’s needs from ages 3 to adult. The program is a stepping stone to prepare skating skills for hockey, freestyle, and recreational skating.

Skating Levels

  • For skaters ages 3-5 with little or no skating experience
  • Learn basic balance and skating skills in a fun introductory class
  • Parent or adult friend will accompany skater on the ice
  • Participating adults must be able to skate
  • Learn basic techniques to help teach your skater on practice ice
  • For skaters ages 3-5 with little or no skating experience
  • Learn basic balance and skating skills
  • A fun introductory class in an age appropriate setting
  • For skaters ages 3-5 who have passed Snowplow Sam 1
  • Or who have previously taken skating lessons
  • Develop preliminary coordination and strength to maneuver on ice
  • For skaters ages 6 – 11
  • Learn the basic fundamentals of skating to begin Hockey, Freestyle Skating, and Speed Skating
  • Skater has passed Basic 1 or Snowplow Sam 3
  • Classes cover basic fundamental skating skills:
    • Forward stroking
    • Backward stroking
    • Glides
    • Stops
    • Edges
    • Crossovers
    • Turns
  • Skills build on each level as the skater progresses
  • Skaters receive a 30-minute practice, 30-minute instruction and a 20-minute off-ice class +2 additional practice ice times each week
  • Classes will include freestyle moves: Jumps, Spins, and Edge work
  • For all age skaters who have passed Snowplow Sam 3 or Basic 1
  • Designed to learn and develop skating skills necessary for hockey
  • Skaters may wear full hockey gear. Sticks will be provided during class time. No stick use on practice ice area
  • For skaters ages 12-16
  • Skate with your friends while learning the fundamentals of skating
  • Introduction to synchronized skating class
  • For Skaters who have passed Basic 1
  • Learn fundamentals of synchronized team skating in a fun environment
  • For skaters 18 and older
  • Designed for a mature skater interested in learning how to skate
  • Classes are geared towards skaters ability

30 Minute Class / 30 Minute Practice:

  • Skaters will meet at the colored boards on the ice for their 30 minute class, corresponding with the color on their name tag.
  • Nametags will be located on the table near the entrance to the ice rink.
  • Practice ice is available for LTS skaters only, parents and siblings are not allowed on the ice. Skaters must be able to skate on their own to utilize the monitored practice area.
  • Skaters will be evaluated the 2nd to last session. They will be given an evaluation form that recommends the next level.

Registration Procedure:

  • Current Student Registration: Current students may register for the next session after their evaluation, the second to last week of the session. It is recommended do so to reserve their spot.
  • Open Registration: This is open to the public or skaters that were not enrolled it the previous session.
  • Phone in Registration: Phone-in registrations will be accepted following open registration.
  • Refund / Credit Policy: Please be aware there is a NO refund policy.
  • Skate Rental: Skate rental may be prepaid at the time of registration. The price is the same if prepaid or if paid each week individually.
  • Free Open Skate Pass: LTS skaters will be given a pass to attend one open skating session for free. The skater must present the pass at the front desk during open skating hours. The pass will expire the last day of the session.
